Club info

The club was formed in 2016 for past and present members of LUCA affiliated clubs and will soon become a registered athletics club. The club supports the LUCA affiliated clubs both financially and administratively and offers a full programme of domestic competition and social gatherings.

Overview

All members of LUCA affiliated clubs who have competed for their university are invited to join Motspur AC. The club was founded in 2016 by and for past and present members of LUCA affiliated clubs. It traces it’s history to the founding of LUCA and the beginning of the London clubs working in closer partnership to develop the sport and provide a full competition programme.

The club is exclusively for past and present LUCA affiliated club members and exists to help strengthen and maintain for life, the friendships forged between University club mates and their rivals.

Domestic Competition

Motspur enters teams into the LUCA competition programme, including the Cross-Country league, Indoor championships and Outdoor Series. Members can participate in these races for free. Motspur is currently investigating other matches to enter athletes in.

Social Events

Motspur will hold the first of its annual dinners in late 2017. There are always socials after matches and impromptu pub trips too.

Finance

Motspur seeks to support the LUCA vision of creating a golden era of Athletics at London universities by providing financial assistance to LUCA affiliated clubs. The clubs receive an annual payment from Motspur, the value of which depends on the amount of Motspur members graduated from that university. Older members’ voluntary charitable donations are welcome and are used to support the development of the university clubs.

The Name

The name ‘Motspur’ was chosen by the LUCA Council in 2016 after extensive consultation. Motspur Park in Surrey was the location of the former University of London Athletics Club training ground. The site was sold to Fulham Football club and the track dismantled. The clubhouse and stand still exists.

The Shield

The Shield is a combination of the University of London shield (representing the colleges of the UofL) and the blue waves of the Greater London Council Shield (representing the universities not part of UofL)
